PROJECT MANAGER

Duties to include cost tracking, estimating, proposal writing, on-site management of projects. Typical projects may include soil excavation/disposal, on-site stabilization, facility decontamination/demolition, remedial system installation, HDPE piping and fabrication. Corporate Safety and Environmental Engineer 

Description

Working in a casual corporate campus environment and reporting to the Manager of Environmental and Safety Compliance within the company’s Risk Management Department, a position exists for a Corporate Safety and Environmental Engineer. Responsibilities of this position include supporting all safety and environmental programs for a large, multi-national paper and packaging company with approximately 100 locations. These locations are primarily located in the U.S., however they are also present in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile (more information available at www.rocktenn.com).  Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental programs/procedures, Conducting or following up on facility safety and/or environmental audits, Reviewing proposed and final regulations to assess impact on company operations, Developing and teaching environmental and safety training sessions,   Serving as an internal environmental and safety consultant to all operating facilities.

Additional Details

Working knowledge of safety regulations for general industry (OSHA 1910) required (Lockout-Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Electrical Safety, Emergency Response, Hazard Communication, etc).  Background in insurance/Workers’ Compensation matters a plus, but not required.  Knowledge of environmental regulations a plus (CAA, CWA, RCRA, EPCRA, CERCLA, etc.).  Undergraduate in a related field required. Professional designations a plus, but not required (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.). Minimum of 3-5 years of environmental and safety experience required. Excellent oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people required.  Must be willing to travel 50% - 75%.  High initiative and the ability to work independently required. Microsoft Office skills required. Previous experience in paper and packaging industry desirable, but not required.

SAFETY COORDINATOR

The Environmental, Health and Safety Coordinator position will develop and maintain a comprehensive safety program that encourages employee participation, reduces work related accidents, and complies with the rules and requirements of federal, state and local regulatory agencies. The EH&S Coordinator oversees the safety of all employees at the plant site, directs the activity of plant personnel to make sure all safety practices are carried out and documented and is responsible for conducting all inspections, training and safety meetings.

 

The successful candidate will possess a four-year college degree or greater highly desirable along with 2-5 years of supervisory/management experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Knowledge of local, state and federal laws necessary. Bilingual (Spanish/English) to communicate effectively at all levels throughout the organization. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.

 

Responsibilities:
Safety of all employees at the facility. Enforcement of all Safety Rules and Guidelines to keep the employees from harm. Plan, schedule, and direct plant safety meetings to ensure all personnel have adequate training and safety equipment. Conduct new employee training. This will make sure that all employees are instructed in the proper and safe working practices pertaining to their jobs. Motivate plant personnel to ensure a team spirit for watching out for all employees. Develop and nurture effective working relationships with production managers and supervisors to assure management commitment to, and support for, the overall safety effort. Conduct safety inspections in plants and terminals to detect unsafe working conditions and practices.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM TECHNICIAN

DATE AVAILABLE: September 1, 2006

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Technician shall conduct quantitative fit testing for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Respiratory Protection Program.  Presently, the CDC employs the ambient aerosol technique using the TSI™ Portacount instrument.  The Technician must be able to use and maintain the fit testing equipment according to the manufacturer’s specifications.  The Technician shall also be required to perform hands-on training in all types of respiratory protection.  The Technician must clean and maintain the respirators used for training purposes.  On a monthly basis, the Technician shall perform SCBA inspections; on a quarterly basis, Grade D air testing must be performed of the SCBA supplied air. The Technician shall be responsible for maintaining the CDC’s electronic respiratory protection database as well as all hardcopy records.  The Technician shall be available to answer questions regarding the CDC’s Respiratory Protection Program. On a monthly basis, the Technician shall prepare activity and inventory reports.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Technician must possess training and education in industrial hygiene, environmental health, or a related field.  Under the direction of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Respirator Protection Program Trainer, the Technician will provide fit-testing and training on a variety of respirator types.  The Technician must also have experience and training in the use of the Portacount and N-95 companion in order to work independently in conducting fit-tests. The Technician should be able to field a variety of questions regarding usage and limitations of respirators under a variety of scenarios relating to a wide variety of biological and chemical agents. The Technician must have a thorough knowledge of respirator characteristics, exposure prevention, and decontamination methods and be able to answer questions regarding exposure potential and use of protective equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in sciences or related field; previous experience in industrial hygiene or occupational health medicine with emphasis on respiratory training and fit testing; previous knowledge of various types of respiratory protection.  First aid and CPR training is encouraged. 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:  Candidate must be able to successfully pass a Department of Health & Human Services security background check.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Salary commensurate upon experience.
